Linden on the move.....

-President announces $2.4B investment in modern water treatment system





President Bharrat Jagdeo yesterday gave exciting news to residents of Linden, Region Ten, announcing a recent decision to invest $2.4B in a modern water treatment system to significantly improve the supply of potable water to residents.
The modern water system will include two treatment plants at Wisroc and Amelia’s Ward, equipped with elevated and underground gravity storage departments to facilitate the process of supplying treated water.
Other aspects of the project include the relay of the entire distribtuion system in the town. The programme was forwarded to the board of the Inter American Development Bank (IDB) and works are scheduled to commence before the end of September.
The treatment plant will add to the list of systems already established at Lima, Vergenoegen, Cotton Tree, Central Ruimveldt, Sophia and Corriverton, benefitting over 100,000 people with improved water quality.
During 2010, a total of 15,000 service connections were upgraded and in excess of 5,000 water meters were installed.
This year, $850M is allocated to improving water distribution in areas such as Hope, Calcutta, Lochaber, Anna Catherina, Diamond, DeHoop Mahaica and Bartica.
Additionally, $103M is budgeted for the provision of water to hinterland communities such as Sand Hills, Wiruni, Calcuni, Kariabo, Kwebanna and Mahdia, where over 5,000 residents will benefit.

  1. Once again another major developmental stride in one of our key regions by the government bringing about major positive changes in the lives of the people in each community in Linden. At this point I must say under the PPP/C Government, Guyana has seen heights that it has never seen before and have accomplished more than one could fathom in the short periods in which these developments have taken place country wide.

  2. Has development in Guyana continues Linden now sees it self getting this million dollar water treatment plant which will improve the supply of portable water to residents.This is another initiative to help better the lives of the Guyanese people.
