Regional Chairman of Region 4 (Demerara/Mahaica), Mr. Clement Corlette, yesterday allegedly assaulted a resident of Yarowkabra on the Soesdyke Linden Highway.
According to a reliable source, the incident stemmed from the Chairman preventing a media representative from recording the proceedings of a meeting in the village.
The source said after Corlette objected to the recording, community members aired their disapproval, and the resident was assaulted by the Chairman.
The meeting was geared to deal with several community issues, including the formation of a Community Development Council (CDC).
However, due to the incident, the Chairman was booed by residents.
After Corlette left, the resident was advised to make a report to the police station.
Recently, the Chairman was accused of being dictatorial, domineering, self-centred and suppressive, after he evicted the media on several occasions from recording public meetings.
The Chairman had been accused recently of dictatorship-style leadership after he ordered an NCN cameraman to leave a statutory meeting.
