Mark Benschop’s recent endorsement of the Alliance for Change has come in for a flagging, as some politicians believe his association with the party is a true reflection of those connected to the AFC. Some have questioned what Benschop would be taking to the party, since he is described as a controversial political figure.
When asked for a comment on Benschop’s endorsement, PPP/C campaign spokesman Robert Persaud did not have much to say, but referred to the popular adage, “Show me your company and I will tell you who you are”.
The AFC’s Prime Ministerial Candidate, Raphael Trotman at a press conference on Wednesday, admitted to Benschop’s colourful history and pleaded for Guyanese to give him a second chance, since he claimed that he has turned to god and is a changed man.
However, Persaud said the history of Benschop speaks for itself. Benschop has been at the center of a number of controversies over the years and had several brushes with the law.
