Liveinguyana finds it strange that in reacting to President Donald Ramotar’s assertion that the Opposition had no place in the crafting of the National Budget and should be involved in consultations only the Alliance For Change (AFC) and A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) sought to convey the impression that the one seat majority they hold when combined gives then such a right. We challenge APNU/AFC to show the people of Guyana where it is written in the constitution that the parliamentary opposition, together with a designated cabinet minister, will be responsible for preparing and or presenting the National Budget.
To the best of our knowledge, no such clause exists implicitly or explicitly. These two parties we believe are foolish to think that the current parliamentary configuration equates to the constitution, which vests authority for Budget preparation and presentation in the President.
