Kaieteur News: With a number of non-governmental organisations and Ministry of Social Services, claiming that moral values of young adolescents are declining, a 14-year-old from a city school aborted a well-formed fetus in the school toilet, and then discarded the remains in a garbage bin.
The teen delivered the fetus on Friday last.
According to information reaching this newspaper, the Third Form student went into the washroom and delivered the baby on the floor.
The source further told Kaieteur News that after delivering the fetus, she then wrapped it in paper and dumped it into the garbage.
The young girl then proceeded back into her classroom and pretended that nothing had happened.
However teachers and students at the school saw the young girl clutching her stomach and crying out in pain. The teachers then called her mother who took her to a city hospital.

This is so sad, despite all of the social ills we are facing in our country our Education system does not Guidance Counselors whose role is to facilitate the Teachers -child- parent relationship. We have an archaic system dating back to the British Empire of using Social Workers who themselves need to understand what counseling is , they need to be more objective and less judgemental, same for the Nursing Profession. This child is in need of help, not more abuse, we do not know her environmental conditions, all over the world we hear of teenage pregnancies. This is really a sad state of affairs.
ReplyDeleteI support Anon #1 comments, it is truly a sad state of affairs, perhaps we could make suggestions to the Minister of Education about the need to have Guidance Counselors (this is a special type of skills set required) to support the teachers in the School system. This child should not be abused any further.
ReplyDeleteAs a high school teacher, when I read this story it really sadden me.Recently a peer educator visited the school..the person spoke about the use of condoms...both male and female and distributed posters depicted the instruction of using this contraception method...when the person attempted to paste the poster in the classroom some angry female teachers protested...as a male teacher I was outnumbered so my comments almost fell on deaf ears...after some persuasion I pull the female teachers away from students and told them that in the 21st century sex has become inevitable in a teens lives...abstainance is becoming more and more impossible...demonstrating the safe use of condoms maybe is the safe way to go in ensuring the our young population is not severely expose to S.T.I among them H.I.V...the time has come...this is the age of condoms....to parents out there please teach your children about sex and the consequences...and if there are already sexually active please insist that they carry condoms(both sexes) as teachers as we mold the minds of our future generation..we will also do our part in educating them about sex education....
