Guyana soon to rid itself of antiquated weather prediction facilities!

Doppler radar at Hyde Park, Timehri

Civil works on the tower to house the Doppler radar at Hyde Park, Timehri, East Bank Demerara has been completed. Agriculture Minister Robert Persaud on Wednesday told the media that the radar is currently being installed and will soon be tested.

The original site for the tower at Timehri was shifted after it was discovered that this was too close to the airport’s Very High Frequency (VHF) Omai Range which can affect readings transmitted to aircraft.

Guyana is one of four Caribbean countries benefitting from Doppler systems under a 13.2M Euros regional project funded by the European Union (EU).

The other beneficiary states are Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados and Belize.
