Extension of GECOM Chairman sick leave seen as further attempt to delay elections by APNU+AFC

As the APNU+AFC corrupt cabal in government continues to desperately cling on to power in spite of the successful passage of a no-confidence motion which should've resulted in their resignation and the announcement of a date for elections within 90 days there are now reports that the GECOM Chairman has further extended his medical leave.
According to several media houses  Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) today informed that the medical leave of its Chairman, Retired Justice James Patterson has been extended following a visit to his doctor on January 7, 2019.
“While the Chairman has been recovering well, he was advised by his doctor to have some additional rest to ensure that he fully recovers to effectively resume duty. The Chairman will provide further updates on his resumption,” a GECOM statement noted.
President Granger became the subject of much criticism when he unilaterally appointed then 84 year old Justice Patterson in October 2017. He deemed him ‘fit and proper’ at that time. However, ill health has kept Patterson away from work since December 2018 when he did not show up for the regular statutory meeting with GECOM Commissioners on December 4. He had promised to resume duty on January 8, 2019.
Already observers are saying that this is another attempt by the APNU+AFC to hold on to power by delaying the holding of General and Regional Elections which are due by March 19th of this year.
