Jagdeo nominated to head delegation to address President Obama on energy priorities

President Bharrat Jagdeo with Carribean and other MPs

A motion was carried at last Saturday’s sitting of the International Parliamentary Hearing for Caribbean Legislators that President Bharrat Jagdeo should head a delegation to address United States President Barack Obama on the Caribbean’s energy priorities in the era of climate change at the Fifth Summit of the Americas to be held in Trinidad and Tobago next month.

The fifth Summit of the Americas which is slated for April 17th through 19th will be held under the theme “Securing Our Citizens’ Future by Promoting Human Prosperity, Energy Security and Environmental Sustainability”.

According to a Bahamian Member of Parliament, Mr. Picewell Forbes, this has created “an ideal opportunity that should not be missed to voice the concerns of the Caribbean Region.”

During the first day of Guyana’s first two-day International Parliamentary hearing for Caribbean legislators at the Grand Coastal Inn in Le Ressouvenir, East Coast Demerara, participants agreed that since Guyana’s head of state has been at the forefront of addressing these issues it is only logical that he lead such the delegation.
