Japanese Ambassador Visits Water Conservancy

The Japanese Ambassador to the Eastern Caribbean, Guyana and Suriname, Mr. Iawata visited the East Demarara Water Conservancy to get a first hand look at the site. It may be recalled that a project proposal was submitted to the Japanese Government last year to fund the rehabilitation of the conservancy to prevent another major flood disaster on the coast. The estimated cost for this project is US$6 MILLION. The Ambassador was convinced that this proposal will be favorably considered by the Japanese Government. Other members of his delegation included his wife, the political affairs officer the Embassy of Japan Mr. Kaotaka.
