PROJECT FOR MORE WATER IN GUYANA!


The signing of the Exchange of Notes and the Grant Agreement for Phase II of The Project for Water Supply in Corriverton took at Takuba Lodge Georgetown. Permanent Secretary within the Ministry of Foreign Trade and International Cooperation, Mr. John Isaacs signed the agreement on behalf of the Government of Guyana while the Ambassador (Ag) of the Embassy of Japan, Mr. Kiyoshi Takeuchi and Mr. Mr. Satochi Murusawa Chief Representative of JICA Mexico Office signed on behalf of the Government of Japan.


Among the attendees were Minister within the Ministry of Finance, Ms. Jennifer Webster, Minister of Housing and Water Mr. Irfaan Ali, Ms. Mariko Chiba of the Embassy of Japan, and Mr. Hans Barrow Honorary Consulate for Japan.


It may be recalled that Phase 1 of the said project was completed in March 2008 and covered from Number 51 Village –Number 73 Village Corentyne. The water treatment plant constructed at a cost of 651,000,000 Japanese Yen was formally commissioned on March 09, 2008 at a ceremony attended by the Hon. Prime Minister, the Japanese Ambassador to Guyana, the Minister of Housing and Water and other dignitaries.


Phase II of this project will cover from Number 74 Village Corentyne to Moleson Creek at a cost of 867 Million Japanese Yen and is expected to be completed by March 2010.
