Arrest warrant issued for tortured teen

-fails to turn up in court to give evidence

Arrest warrants have been issued for the teen, whose genital area was set afire by police last year during a murder investigation, and two other men who were allegedly wounded during the investigation. Almost a year after the incident, which drew national and international

Deonarine Rafick

condemnation, the matter is yet to begin as the complainants have repeatedly failed to turn up to court. Last Thursday, Magistrate Nyasha Williams-Hatmin issued arrest warrants for Deonarine Rafick, Nouravie Wilfred and the teenager and the case was called again yesterday but the complainants were not present. The matter, being heard at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court is scheduled to come up again next week.

The tortured teen has apparently been abandoned by those who 'championed' his cause in the immediate aftermath of the torture allegation. One observer has pointed out that now that the opportunists in the opposition have milked what ever juice there was to be had out of the boy's plight they have abandoned him.

The teen was arrested along with others after being fingered in the gruesome murder of a former Region Three official.
