NEW airline to offer cheaper Guyana flights.

A new airline is soon to be launched in Barbados that will offer low fares to Guyana and the wider Caribbean.

Airone Ventures Limited Business Development Director Ian Burns and Robbie Burns met with President Bharrat Jagdeo on Monday to inform him of the venture. Airone will be flying to Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago and Bridgetown, Barbados.

Ian Burns related that the venture has been four years in the making and it aims to ensure that the Caribbean benefits from aviation growth.

He said the “missing link has been a low fare airline”. The director posited that such an airline is “fantastic” for people in the Region and the Diaspora.

Jagdeo has been lamenting what he had described as an “unconscionable monopoly” on airfare increases by some airlines and had said that government would consider re-establishing an airline to combat this situation. He had referred to situations where travellers sometimes pay more from Guyana to Trinidad and Tobago than travellers pay from Trinidad and Tobago to the US noting that for Guyana to benefit from an open economy there is need for services that are appropriately priced and from which customers get value for their money.
