Senior officers at Child Care and Protection Agency dismissed over mishandling of Neesa Gopaul case.

Minister Manickchand delivering the reportThe Deputy Director of Operations of the Child Care and Protection Agency and another officer were dismissed because of their negligence in handling the case of 16-year old Neesa Gopaul who was killed and her body dumped near an eco-tourist resort. The probation period of another officer has been extended.

Human Services Minister, Priya Manickchand made public the findings of an internal probe that revealed, among other things, that the Deputy Director of Operations had "by her own admission failed to do obligatory and necessary daily management of the operations of the agency, resulting in no or no proper supervision and/or follow up of cases that had come to the attention of the agency.
Manickchand said that in a six-month period, the Deputy Director of Operations had been written to in excess of three times about her failure to perform in the capacity in which she was hired and for her continuous absences but the personnel division did not take any action although it was advised to do so.
