Friction Test at CJIA confirms runway up to standards

Friction Test being conducted

Preliminary results from a Friction Test conducted yesterday at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport revealed that the surface of the runway is in conformity with the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization. Sources close to the investigation revealed that the test was conducted by an expert from Barbados in the presence of CJIA officials and representatives from Caribbean Airlines. The US National Transportation Safety Board also witnessed the exercise. This forms part of an ongoing probe of the crash landing of CAL Flight 523 in Guyana last Saturday with 160 persons on board. All passengers and crew survived the accident.
