Bishop Juan Edghill, Chairman of the Ethnic Relations Commission, has issued a warning against those who seek to discredit him, and, by extension, divide the Christian community. Following is a statement issued yesterday by Bishop Edghill:

“I issue the following statement in response to letters penned by Roger Williams and printed in the Kaieteur News on February 17, and by Ms. Patricia Gonzalez printed in the Kaieteur News on February 6, 2011.

“The letters were in every respect mischievous, dishonest, untruthful and designed to discredit me as a Christian leader and to set members of the Christian body against me.
I vehemently deny ever making any such statement on NCN on January 30, 2011, or at any other time, or at any other forum, as attributed to me in the letters by Mr. Williams and Ms. Gonzalez, and I dare anyone to produce evidence to prove my denial false. The statements attributed to me are inconsistent with my Christian belief.

“For public record I hereby state that I believe in Jesus Christ. I believe he is the Son of God. I believe he is the only mediator between God and man. I believe John 14:6, where Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No man could come to the Father except through me.”

“I believe and practice prayer that is always in the “Name of Jesus.”

“I will not respond to the other character assassinations and political commentary quoted in the two letters.

“As Christians, we were forewarned of those who will seek to divide us and sway us away from our teachings. Remember what is written in Romans 16:17: “I urge you brothers to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teachings you have learnt. Keep away from them.”

“Those who have ears to hear, let them hear, and those who have eyes to see, let them read.

“Further I say not!”

  2. This is a good step for there to be a religious channel for the various religious programs only.

  3. These opposition are all about corruption so the idea of a religious channel for delivering religious message to the people of this country wont mean anything to them.
