Full Court chides Christopher Ram for time wasting in Jagdeo libel suit

-Freddie Kissoon and Kaieteur News ordered to $10,000 in cost

The Full Court, hearing an appeal by Freddie Kissoon and others against an injunctive order by Chief Justice relating to a libel case involving the President, yesterday chided the lawyers and the appellants for wasting the court’s time.

Attorneys-at-Law Mr. Neil Parsram and Mr. Christopher Ram, for the Defendants/Appellants requested an adjournment on the grounds that they were not ready with their legal authorities. The court, constituted by Justices Mr. William Ramlal and Mr. Winston Patterson criticized the lawyers for not being ready.

Mr. Anil Nandlall for the Applicant/Plaintiff, Mr. Bharrat Jagdeo, objected to the application on the grounds that he was ready to go ahead. He however decided to accept cost for the day in the sum of $10,000. The court ordered the appellants to pay the sum of $10,000 and adjourned the matter to June 15.

The President of the Court, Justice Ramlal, pointed out to the appellants that if costs were not paid by that time they would not be heard.
