AFC/APNU unable to find agreement on replacement for Robert Williams at GECOM

The Alliance For Change (AFC) and A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) after several discussions that became heated at times, still have not agreed on a suitable replacement for the late Robert Williams on the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM).

According to sources, the names that have been the core of discussions to fill the vacant commissioner position, are that of former People's National Congress Reform (PNCR) member of parliament and member of APNU Aubrey Norton and AFC's David Patterson.

The six-member commission was reduced to four, following death of Williams and the resignation of People's Progressive Party/Civic's Moen McDoom last month.

But the PPP/C has subsequently identified attorney-at-law Jaya Manickchand as their replacement, leaving the one place to be filled by the opposition.

A source told Liveinguyana, that following up on an agreement between the AFC and APNU to work together at various levels, they have decided to identify a candidate who will represent the interest of both parties on GECOM.

The two parties will meet again shortly.
