Former Georgetown Mayor, Ranwell Jordan was recently captured wearing a bag depicting a map of Suriname that includes New River Triangle. Jordan, a member of the Peoples National Congress Reform (PNCR), was spotted with the bag at City Hall where he had attended the presentation of the municipality’s 2012 budget.
He later claimed that the bag was given to him as a gift. The picture has generated much discussion on several social networks. Many persons condemned the act as being 'unpatriotic' while a few ascribed it to ignorance on the part of Jordan.
The New River Triangle area measures some 6,000 square miles and has been at the center of dispute between Guyana and Suriname.
