National Haiti relief committee orgainsed telethon raised $8.7M in first night.

A telethon organized by the National Haiti Relief Committee held at NCN last night was successful in raising $8.7M, up to last night.

Numerous pledges were made and the programme featured many prominent politicians, reps from various NGOs, religious leaders and civil society advocates. Among those were Opposition leader Robert Corbin, PNC/R Executive member and MP, Basil Williams, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Clarissa Rhiel, senior members of the PPP, WPA, Government Minister and a few low level AFC members.

They all commended the speed of Guyana's response, specifically the setting up of a National Relief Committee for Haiti by the President and called on their fellow Guyanese to assist in various ways. Moderation was done at various times by Neaz Subhan, Micheal Gordon and Alex Graham.

  1. Another good deed done by the government and his party. Always there to help when people are in great difficulty. This disaster these people are facing is one that doesn’t have words to describe there devastation but just to be sympathetic to these people and there ordeal at the moment. Everyone should indeed support this worthy cause…
