Hundreds turned out yesterday at Babu John, Berbice in an event held to commemorate the 14th anniversary of the death of Dr Cheddi Jagan, founder of the People's Progressive Party and man often hailed as 'the father of the nation'. The now calendar event programme, which commenced shortly after 1500 hours with a wreath-laying ceremony at the crematorium by the President and his entourage, featured reflections by Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, readings of excerpted passages from Dr. Jagan’s writings by students of the Courantyne comprehensive and JC Chandisingh High Schools, a presentation by PPP General-Secretary Donald Ramotar, an unscheduled address by Dr. Cheddi’s beloved eldest grandson, Cheddi Jagan 3rd, the traditional calypso by Mighty Kendingo from Evesham, with the feature address being delivered by His Excellency President Bharrat Jagdeo.
